I do not smoke. Zippo lighters Can be useful for other reasons. This polished chrome model can be used to start a fire obviously. Not so obvious is the fact you can start a fire even if you are out of fluid (see youtube video). It can also be used as a signaling device reflecting the sun light toward passing aircraft, cars, hikers etc. It is not my first choice for making a fire or signaling but a light backup piece of equipment.

This lighter is the time-tested fluid lighter that has been used for the last half century.

It works great, is durable and windproof (except in a full gale). As soon as I filled it with lighter fluid I was set.

I also placed a couple of extra flints inside the lighter (under the bottom felt pad) for replacement of the flint.

I prefer this over the butane lighters because lighter fluid stores easily, refills are quick and easy and the lighter works for quite a time before needing another fill.
